To him things looked bad to be honest . "Doc, what's his condition?" Tom asked anxiously. (Reply: Doctor) Jackson felt the weight of the works settling on his shoulders. He thought quickly and deeply. He remembered Lt. Crenshaw back in the shuttle. Quickly tapping his comm badge and transmitted "Crenshaw this is Tom Jackson. Come in" A static reply was quick in response. "Go ahead Commander" he replied. Tom outlined quickly what had happened and what he needed. A crisp "wait one" came back. Crenshaw checked the items on-board. "Ah ha" Peter cried. He had found the power generator. "Commander we must live good. Nolar had packed an extra portable power generator" he said . Tom smiled and said "beam it to my location now ". The unit materialized near Tom. Fortunately he knew enough engineering skills to hook it up. "Tesha, I need your help with this " Tom added. (Reply: Tesha) Between the two they managed to hook up the power unit. He wanted to test the transport capability before using it on crew mates. "Lieutenant I am going to send you a test transport object. Please key me know when you get it." Jackson ordered. The transport began. The object vanished. Tom waited anxiously. "Commander , the object arrived intact" Crenshaw reported. Tom turned to to the doctor and asked "is he able to be transported to the shuttle and then back to the Rose?" (Reply : Doc) (Posted by: Bill) ----- (Yora III, C'Nell, Day 2, 0415) By the time the broken and bruised Vulcan saw the shuttle site he was relieved. He fell before he reached them though, still conscious he shouted out for the nearest crewmember. "C'Nell reporting in sirs!" he shouted as loud as he could. He shut his eyes, blood streaming from him-he made one last attempt, tapping his combadge "At landing site" was all he could manage before going into unconsciousness, this would have to be fixed back at the ship. (Reply anyone who may have heard) (posted by Nathan) ----- (Yora City, Andersen, Day 2, 0417) "Doc, what's his condition?" Jackson asked Ailyn, he seemed anxious. "He sustained heavy wounds, he really needs serious medical attention, the only one that Rosenante can provide for sure." she said, worrying that it might be too late if they need to bring him out of the city and to the shuttle manually. Jackson called in Lt Crenshaw, asking him if there's anything they could use at the moment. A power generator was transported directly to Hospital. Jackson asked Tesha's help setting it up, while Andersen was trying to just see how heavy the damage was to his internal organs. The disruptor wasn't set on full capacity, but it was strong enough to burn through the surface and her biggest worry was the heart and the lungs. "Is he able to be transported to the shuttle and then back to the Rose?" asked Jackson. "Yes, I believe he is, however..." she started and then paused for a second, thinking how she should, as a Chief Medical Officer, accompany the injured First Officer back on ship so she can immediately help in sickbay as well. And then, the thought that she's again not going to satisfy her secondary mission on this planet was appearant, and she only had her own thoughts to comfort herself. The fate played it's cards, now it's on Andersen and the rest of the team to play theirs. "... I believe someone with medical knowledge should accompany him." she finished looking at Jackson. It was obvious she thought of herself, and then she couldn't really say if she was needed on the ship for the procedure either - she couldn't say as much without all the scanner equipment she had on the ship. But the decision wasn't hers. She wanted to help Matrix, after all it was humane and right thing to do as a doctor, and she had to stay on the planet as well. A call of duty versus a call of duty. Either way, she couldn't do both. (Reply: Jackson, Any) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (Yora City, Nolar, Day 2, 0421) Gan and Allen had returned to the facility. Apparently, there was no trap set for them....at least not yet. With the sensors blockers though, His first order had been to assign Allen to cover their back. If anyone was to come in, he needed to know quickly. Gan felt more secured. Before even looking at the analysis Allen had done, Gan tried to find a hidden corner, yet easily accessible, to install the transporter beacon/enhancer. Still, while he was installing it, he could not stop but looking everywhere around him. If such a facility was so vital to the Yorans, and if someone was indeed spying on them, then why wouldn't they intervene here to capture them? Looking at the frequency Allen had set for the sensors blockers, he programmed the transporter enhancer with the same frequency. Now, there was only one way to test it. "Gan to Lieutenant Crenshaw. Do you have a transporter lock on me and Allen?" he asked. =/\= Yes I do Lieutenant. =/\= Crenshaw replied. "Okay. Then start beaming the first ten items on the list I have given you. Oh, and by the way, can you also beam some proximity alerts and spying device or cameras." asked Gan. =/\= Ehh....Wait... I have a tactical tricorder. =/\= Crenshaw replied. "That could do, but I really need a proximity alert device" replied Gan. =/\= I'll try to see what I can do. Ready to receive the first package? =/\= asked Crenshaw. "Proceed" Gan replied. Beside him materialized different parts. There was perhaps a total of 32, but several were the same (there is 10 different type of parts). Activating the tactical tricorder he received, he programmed it to detect any upcoming person, or anything he should worry about. That done, he started install the parts one by one, starting with the quickest to install. In order to make sure no one would realize someone was repairing the reactor, despite installing the parts, none were actually activated. He preferred to activate them all at the same time. (Reply Allen, iyw) (Ppsted by Nick) ----- (Yora City, Matrix, Day 2, 0425) The away team had finally made their way to the hospital. At the direction of the Administrator he and Matrix ducked into the main records room and began to sort through various documents. The room was devoid of light except for a few display monitors dimly glowing. As the Administrator poured through one of the larger display terminals, Matrix took the opportunity to scrutinize the hospital official. Standing behind the Administrator, Matrix pulled out his tricorder and took several scans of the Yoran. A few moments passed and the Administrator found what he was looking for. A directory named Area 5-Reports. “That’s strange.” Said the Administrator. “Parton?” replied Matrix. “Commander, I should be able to access anything in this system, but this directory isn’t allowing access with my credentials.” Continued the Administrator. “Perhaps my password was changed? I’ll try again.” He said noting the figure just out of sight. Matrix placed his tricorder on the desk next to the computer terminal and allowed the recording device to scan the contents of the records computer. Matrix pulled up a chair and sat next to the Administrator and watched him work. “If you don’t mind Administrator?” asked Matrix. “Not at all Commander…shouldn’t be but a few moments I think I’ve gained access.” Replied the Administrator, seemingly growing nervous. “Ah…there we are. Here are the records of all the treated patients in this hospital for the past five years.” As he continued to scroll through the records. “Can we search for any anomalies within the same patients during any time of their visits here…anything unusual?” asked Matrix. “When we first started this process you pointed out an apparent foreign body surgically implanted on some of the patients.” “I don’t recall that Commander…I’m not seeing anything of the sort now. No…nothing out of the ordinary.” He continued. “How do you explain that Administrator? You clearly stated in our first encounter there were falsified records…you showed me those records.” asked Matrix. “He doesn’t need to explain anything to you Commander.” Said a voice in the dark. The hand held disruptor became visible first, firmly pointed at Matrix, then the tall figure emerged in the available light. The Administrator stood up and presented the figure with an object. “Here are the files you wanted and my report. I hope you find this information agreeable?” The Administrator turned to Matrix and said, “Good bye Commander,” and left the room. “So what now Sub-Commander, or perhaps Captain? What shall I call you?” asked Matrix. “You can address me as your adversary in this matter. You’re precious Federation continues to meddle into things that do not concern you. Yora III is just the latest example.” Replied the mystery figure. “I see…and your interest in the Yorans is simply scientific?” asked Matrix. “Of a sort yes. I have no intension of allowing you to interfere with what is doing on here Commander. Not in the slightest.” “Well my suspicions are now confirmed. I have found you and know that the Yoran medical records show clear signs of experimentation, manipulation and in clear violation of Interstellar Law.” Replied Matrix. “You found nothing! There are no records and as for finding me. I assure you Commander, you and I never had this conversation.” The disruptor fired and Matrix’s world became black and cold. (Reply none) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Yora City, Nolar, Day 2, 0437) All the first set of parts had been installed. All that was left was to activate them. However, he had preferred to wait. The moment he would activate one of them and the Yoran would start realizing the power was increasing would be the moment Gan would be giving his position. He knew the Yorans were waiting for power, but he thought they had been weeks without power, certainly they could wait one more hour. In any case, he had told Crenshaw to inquire Matrix about the state of the Yoran and tell him if their life really depended on them being activated right away rather than in an hour. Until such call came, Gan resumed installing the parts. Now, it was time for the bigger components to be installed in the main power equipment. The huge and complicated stuffs. Using his engineering tricorder, Gan started to scan the power system to get all the information necessary to set those parts to the correcting settings. Calibration was crucial. 23.43437 was the correct modulation. Using a special engineering tool, he modified the part he had in his left hand to match that very modulation. 23.43437. The part set right, he installed it. (Reply none) (Posted by Nick) ----- Mission: Sensory Overload Day 2 Stardate: 2414.11.02 (Yora City, Allen, Day 2, 0438) While Nolar worked at replacing parts to restore the city power, David carefully walked the area, making sure they weren't going to be attacked. Nolar was paranoid and afraid beyond reason, but it was still wise to be cautious. The place was eerie. Tricorder scans continually showed there was no one else there, but there was something about it that made the hairs on David's neck tingle. He shook himself, not wanting to fall into Nolar's fears. David knew Nolar had a big job to do, but being in Sec/Tac, a person needed to have good instincts and observation skills. He wasn't an engineer, but from what he saw, David guessed that Nolar was taking his time and not restoring the power as he should be doing. He considered saying something about it, but he was already in enough trouble, so he kept it to himself. David stopped and looked at one of the maintenance bots. Its front panel was open and wires were hanging out. It was also covered with dust. It reminded him of something one would see in an old movie. David shrugged and sighed. As he was heading back to where Nolar was, he heard a comm call come from Crenshaw on the runabout. He hurried so he could listen to the report. =^=Lieutenant Commander Matrix has been wounded by disruptor fire and is unconscious. I haven't received orders from Lieutenant Commander Jackson on what to do next.=^= David grabbed his tricorder and did another scan. He waited until Nolar was finished talking with Crenshaw. "Lieutenant, it's still just us here. Scans have not detected anyone else." (reply Nolar) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Yora City, Nolar, Day 2, 0445) =^=Lieutenant Commander Matrix has been wounded by disruptor fire and is unconscious. I haven't received orders from Lieutenant Commander Jackson on what to do next.=^= said Crenshaw. "Do you mean you are worried Lieutenant Jackson could have been injured too?" asked Gan. =/\= I don't know, that's the problem. =/\= Crenshaw replied. "There is no risk to take. If you can have a transporter lock, get them out of there! I'll hurry to finish the work here and join you back. Beam the last parts." replied Gan. As the communication ended, Gan turned to Petty officer Allen. "So do you doubt me again? There was a threat. I can't understand how you could have dismissed it so quickly. I do hope those security officers protecting Matrix did not underestimated the risk and the threat as you did. If they have, they will pay for what happen to Matrix as you will when we get back. And I do hope for them he survives. They were supposed to protect him! It is unforgivable!" (Reply Allen) "We are not out of danger either. We have a mission to complete. For once, do your job. Protect me and yourself. Make sure no threat come here while I complete the repairs." added Gan. (Reply Allen) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Yora City, Nolar, Day 2, 0447) Gan went back to work. All the smaller parts of the reactor had been installed. All that was left to install was the three bigger parts. They were all heavy pieces, but nothing Gan couldn't lift alone. Again, the biggest difficulty was to adjust them so that the kind of ODN system they used could proceed the information, make sure the energy signature fitted and the frequency used was matching. But with the right tools, it was like a piece of cake. After only twenty minutes, the parts were fully integrated to the reactor. ~Time to active them all.~ thought Gan. Using the computer interface, he started the "start-up procedure". At first, Gan adjusted the deuterium-tritium ratio to a low one just to make the reactor warm up, and make sure everything was okay. Activating the different interfaces, he used his engineer tricorder to complete the data he was receiving on his computer. Everything seemed to work fine. He tried to increase the ratio. He took profits of that occasion to see how the coolant were performing. There did not seem to be any problem. He then checked the quantity of helium produced. There was too much Helium-3 and not enough Helium-4. The reactor was working only at 76% efficiency. But considering it was not working at all before, Gan estimated it was more than sufficient. After all, only a hundred years ago, having more than 80% efficiency on a warpcore was considerable unbelievable. Well...okay, it wasn't a matter-antimatter reactor. Still, even fusion reaction was difficult to master. Making sure deuterium fusion caused the formation of an atom of tritium instead of an atom of Helium-3 was a difficult process. You had to give each atom of deuterium a precise momentum. If it was easy to do with only a few atoms, matter compressor and the quantity of reactions the fusion reactors of today were able to contain in its core make a more than 90% efficiency quite an achievement. Starfleet had been able to reach such performance because it had the best engineers. He doubted somehow Yorans had the same quality of engineers. The Fusion Reactor(s) working fine, Gan activated the drones and all the other things he had not turned on yet. Examining one last time that everything was working fine, he then moved towards the transporter beacon. "It won't be long now before they detect we are here. We are done...and I don,t intend to spend a minute more here." he said to Allen (Reply Allen, iyw) "Lieutenant Nolar to Lieutenant Crenshaw, two to beam up." (Posted by Nick) ----- (Yora III, Jackson, Day 2, 0459) Tom found all things were ready. He gave the following orders “Dr. Andersen, you and Cmdr. Matrix beam to the Rubicon NOW”. (Reply: Doctor) Jackson then issued an order to Lt. Nolar “Nolar, once you’ve finalized the power hookup – let Lt. Crenshaw know and beam to the runabout ASAP – time is critical as the FO is badly injured”. (Reply: Nolar) Tom watched as the Doctor and his friend Matrix vanished in the blur of a transporter beam. “O.k. Tesha, we go last” Jackson said smiling sadly. His first mission as CSec was a total bust. The word FAILURE loomed large in his mind. (Reply: Tesha IYW) As Tom sat awaiting the arrival of Nolar and David Allen he started to compose his report to Captain Sanok. ~Maybe I should have stayed as COPS~ Tom mused silently. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Bill West) ----- (Runabout Rubicon, Andersen, Day 2, 0502) Andersen was beamed on Rubicon, it seemed most, if not all, of personnel were already here. She was beside Matrix at the moment, that was peacefully lying down on the sitting benches in the back of the Runabout. Her mission was a failure. In fact, he mission was a double failure. It couldn't have gone worse, even if she tried desperately. Ensign C'Nell was still down, and despite she wanted to protest the Rubicon flying about, as Matrix didn't have a lot of time, she knew they don't leave people behind. When the runabout went over the area where they lost C'Nell, Andersen took a seat on the nearby console, scanning the area. As they didn't find anything, she continued scanning. The runabout was moving forward. "Wait!" she yelled while the Runabout was above a small, one store structure. "I think I have found C'Nells commbadge. That building right bellow us." (Reply: Any) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (Runabout, Jackson, Day 2, 0507) Tom sat in the pilot's seat and was about to go thru an abbreviated pre-flight checklist when Lt. Crenshaw spoke up “Sir, since you’ve suffered an injury I must insist that I pilot us”. Jackson’s face burned red for a split second and then relaxed as he realized that Peter was correct. Sighing Tom admitted “You are correct Peter – take us home then”. Jackson didn’t mind admitting a mistake and he kicked himself mentally that he had been foolish. The runabout lifted off and began to head home Would they have sufficient time to get Steve Matrix to the ship Tom wondered? (Reply: None) (Posted by: Bill) ----- (Runabout, Allen, Day 2, 0508) David and Nolar materialized on the Rubicon. The rest of the away team was already there. Matrix was unconscious. Jackson looked like he had gone a few rounds with a Nausican. Tesha looked ticked off. The only one he didn't see, was C'Nell. While still in the underground facility, once learning that Matrix had been attacked, Nolar had gone off on David about being right that someone was waiting for them. Of course there was some danger to what they were doing, but that was part of being in Starfleet. David had wanted to say something back to Nolar, but it wouldn't have made any difference. Besides, there was no point in getting into more trouble than he was already in. They had gotten the power back on, and that was what was most important. The Rubicon was circling the city, scanning for C'Nell. There was nothing from his comm badge, so they had to scan for Vulcan bio signs. Thus far, they hadn't found him. As lights began to come on in different parts of the city, it seemed strange. It wasn't a common sight to see a city go from total darkness, to having power again. David could only imagine what the Yorans were experiencing as they realized they could get a tech fix again. There was still much to do to help the people, but with so much bad that had happened on both trips down to the city, it was probably best to head back to the Rose. Other ships were due in soon, so the Yorans weren't going to be left to their own way. David needed to concentrate on writing his report, and facing whatever would be coming from Nolar's report. "A penny for your thoughts." ~What?~ It was Tesha. He had said the same thing to her before the briefing that led to their second trip to Yora. David chuckled. "It hasn't been a good day at all." Tesha nodded, but didn't say anything. She seemed to sense he didn't want to talk about it in front of the others. Maybe she understood, fellow non-comms and all. Sighing, he waited while the search for C'Nell continued. (reply any) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Runabout, Nolar, Day 2, 0510) Gan and Allen were back to the Rubicon. They had completed their part of the mission. The power was back on and they were both alive. The same could not be said of the other away team. Matrix was injured, C'Nell was probably death, their mission had failed. Yet, Gan could not stop but wonder if Allen was the exception or the rule. Reflecting on the situation, the only conclusion he could come at was the fact he hadn't exagerated the threat. There was a huge threat, and spending time to make sure their mission would be successful was right thing to do. That if they had hurried like Allen had wanted, and not taken any precaution, Gan and Allen could be in exactly the same situation that the other away team was. A mission failed, injuries, dead.... Once again, the Cardassian proved that their sense of survival and dealing with a threat was unmatched in the Galaxy. No one could take a Cardassian unaware or unprepared. That was what make them sup.... to any other specie. With lieutenant-commander Jackson back on the ship, Gan had no need to command the away team, he let Jackson do his job. While thinking about his decisions, Andersen had detected C'Nell combadge. There was no sign of him yet though. If he was dead, the Rubicon sensors would not detect any Vulcan life sign. "How many Yorans are around that combadge?" Gan finally asked. (Reply any) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Runabout, Tesha, Day 2, 0511) When Tesha was back safe of the runabout, she breathed a big sigh of relief, her antennae drooping slightly. C'Nell had been lost somewhere in the city, so it was decided that the best way to try to find him, was to go airborne. This would allow for a much greater range when conducting sensor sweeps. In the process, Nolar and Allen were beamed aboard. Tesha could see by Allen's body language, and by the expression on his face, that things didn't go well for him. She moved over to him. "A penny for your thoughts." Allen must not have seen her coming, as his initial reaction was a puzzled look. He seemed to remember that he had said the same thing to her before the briefing that led to their second trip to Yora City. He chuckled before saying anything. "It hasn't been a good day at all." Tesha nodded, understanding what he meant. Maybe they could talk about it later, but for now, she should probably be helping Doc Andersen with the wounded Lieutenant Commander Matrix. Tesha stood nearby and watched Andersen work. Tesha wasn't sure, but there was something on Andersen's face, something more than just concern for a wounded comrade. Tesha had gotten to know Andersen well enough to see when something was bothering her. Again, this wasn't the right time to talk about it. Perhaps once they were safely back on the Rose. "Anything you need me to do, Doctor?" (reply Andersen, any) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Runabout, Allen, Day 2, 0512) David was in the co-pilot seat, while Crenshaw flew the runabout. Lieutenant Commander Jackson had been roughed up by some Yorans and wasn't medical fit to fly, but he was well enough to help at tactical, so he was at that station. Doctor Andersen shouted out that a scan had detected Ensign C'Nell's comm badge, but a closer scan of the area did not reveal his presence. The logical conclusion was that C'Nell had also had a bad encounter with some Yorans, which led to the loss of his badge. No one said it, but David could tell the others were wondering the same thing he was. Was C'Nell still alive? Crenshaw continued to circle the city. More and more lights were coming back on, especially at the hospital. David wasn't in medical, so he didn't know what would happen once the Yorans started reconnecting to some tech, but in the situation as it was, he thought it was probably a good thing. With other relief ships due to arrive soon, he was glad the Yorans would get the aid they needed, and that the Rose could move on to another assignment. He would be glad to never come back here again. Scanning the city for one Vulcan was not an easy task, so it wasn't a real surprise that they hadn't found C'Nell yet. David tried to keep a positive attitude that C'Nell was still alive. This made him put himself in C'Nell's situation. Knowing he would be injured, and not being able to call for help, what would he do? "Commander Jackson, sir," said David. "I believe I know where Ensign C'Nell is. I think he would have tried to get back to the runabout on his own. We should do a flyover of the path from the city to the spot where the runabout was hidden in the woods. I'm sure that's where he'll be." (reply Jackson, any) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Runabout, Jackson , Day 2, 0514) Tom head still hurt from his mob encounter. They had thankfully found C'Nell and were heading home. Crenshaw had wisely insisted in flying and Tom had reluctantly agreed with that. Tom moved to the tactical station instead. He was a firm believer in being ready for most anything. Over the years he had served this had saved him many times. Commander Jackson, sir," said David Allen. "I believe I knowwhere Ensign C'Nell is. I think he would have tried to get back to the runabout on his own. We should do a flyover of the path from the city to the spot where the runabout was hidden in the woods. I'm sure that's where he'll be." " Excellent Suggestion Mr Allen. Lt. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Bill) ----- (Runabout, Nolar, Day 2, 0516) Gan had listened to the conversation. Of course C'Nell would try to join the runabout. That wasn't really the question. The question was, could he reach it or was he too badly injured? "For those of us who weren't there when C'Nell disappear, can someone explain us what happened exactly? How was he separated from you? How badly was he injured? How many people were they?" Gan asked. "We must be meticulous. If he was possibly injured, he may have hidden close to where he was injured. So what was his situation?" Gan asked. (Reply anyone) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Yora III, C'Nell, Day 2, 0517) C'Nell fell to the forest floor, he was done. Every ounce of energy used, but he had just one idea. He had enough for one brief holographic projection from his device. It had to be simple but it could produce a quick indicator, above him he heard the runabout but it would take too long. C'Nell activated the device and he could light; he couldn't even create an arrow or anything but he didn't need to. What he needed to do was make something they could detect, his flash of photons would be detected. C'Nell thought as he often did of his adopted mother, he wondered if she influenced him too much. He had never completed Kolinhar, or adopted many Vulcan practices. He needed to get human attention though "Come on you red blooded..." he passed out again before finishing. (Reply any) (posted by Nathan) ----- (Runabout, Andersen, Day 2, 0518) Andersen's been patching up Matrix as best as she could, without the ship, however, there was only so much she could do. He needed help that only the ship's medbay could provide. She could only cauterize some smaller internal wounds and regenerate some of the outer ones, but she could not regenerate organ tissue on-the-fly. With each passing second, the man's life was in more grave danger, and for the time being, it felt out of her control completely. That was really bugging her. "Anything you need me to do, Doctor?" Ailyn became conscious of Tesha standing nearby. "If you don't mind, you could grab that medical tricorder and give me a reading of his lungs." Ailyn showed the tricorder location with the nod of her head, her hands were bloodied and it would look messy if she grabbed it herself. The away team was now returning to the ship. Gan's attention was to his superior, Lieutenant-Commander Matrix. He still found unbelievable the security officers with him didn't took position to prevent their superior officers to be injured. Allen...those security officers, there would be a lot to talk about once back on the ship. "Sir" said Lieutenant Crenshaw in a tone that seemed hesitant. Gan, as many other officers did, turned to look at Crenshaw. Something was materializing in front of the ship. "Evasive Maneuver" Gan said without even waiting to see what that ship was. There was no risk to take. Gan moved to the front to help Crenshaw. As Crenshaw followed the recommendation and dropped speed, moved starboard then sent the impulse drive to maximum , the ship in front of them was now taking shape....a Romulan warbird. The Warbird started firing on the shuttle. It fired back, but it was clearly an uneven fight. The communication was also jammed. Gan transferred all available power to the shield. The shield were quickly weakening, and the strength of the warbird disruptors were quickly overloading the shuttle systems. Some eps conduits were already overloading. (Reply any) (Posted Nick) ----- (Runabout, C'Nell, Day 2, 0535) C'Nell stood up and took to the console; winching slightly. Communications were jammed and this wasn't a fight they could win; apparently. "Time to cheat the Kobayshi Maru" C'Nell said With a determined look he began to man sensors and other science functions looking for anything, anything that would give them an edge. The Warbird wasn't as manoeuvrable at impulse. He wasn't a tactical officer though, he fed his information to the other consoles; tree density, warbird scans, anything. The other crewmen looked concerned at him working, he had time to be ill later. It was illogical not to do something when he could. He moved from the seat and on his own initiative , C'Nell manned tactical. Jackson was mad at his mission failures, at his lack of upward progress and life in general. He washed in and out of full consciousness. His life passed thru his mind. The only good things in his life were his family. Tom Jackson was down in the dumps worse than ever. He saw the mission as a complete failure due to his incompetence. Jackson fully expected to face a Courts-Martial. His closest friend was comatose and he believed it was because Tom Jackson was a failure. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Bill West) ----- (Runabout, Andersen, Day 2, 0542) The whole situations was hectic, there was a fully fledged Romulan Warbird firing at the small runabout. What was exactly holding them together for this long was a question Andersen had but she didn't care as much about that. C'Nell was on the tactical console and Jackson was on the seat near it, looking out of the present, with the cloudy eyes and inability to focus on the current happenings. "Don't fall asleep on me just yet, sir" she said, applying a stim "Here's some juice to keep your mind working for now." she said, smiling as she administered the stim to Jackson. There was only so much she can do about him in a situation like this. She then manned the first unoccupied console, seeing as no one was on it at the moment. "We just took a heavy hit, our shields are down and we're leaking plasma." she looked to C'Nell, knowing he had something on his mind, almost whispering, she said "I think I know how to give us few seconds". She knew the thin layer of armor will be able to take a shot maybe two more and would buckle, leaving the open hull to be teared apart by the next salvo. So, she did the only thing she could come up with, she overloaded the small runabout's deflector and sent the low-frequency graviton pulse directly towards the Warbird. Of course, this did no damage, didn't even penetrate the shields, but for a few seconds at least, the Warbird stopped firing. Their targetting systems were confused by the pulse, but it was only a matter of seconds before they are automatically realigned and they once again are ready to lock on the fast runabout. She just did something without asking for a permission, so this was a direct violation of the chain of command, but frankly, the current situation was so beyond the chain of command it didn't matter to her. She bought them some time, she hoped whatever C'Nell had in his mind was going to work, there was no coming back from this, they only had a single chance to do something to survive, the runabout wasn't going to endure for much longer. (Reply: C'Nell) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (Runabout, C'Nell, Day 2, 0543) The Graviton pulse was a brilliant idea. There wasn't time for due congratulations; C'Nell had noticed something in the time that had been bought. He had noticed the Warbird had a blind spot right underneath it, the targeting systems were shot; in fact they were taking way longer than they should to get a proper shot. Rubicon had been flying evasively but... C'Nell moved the Rubicon forward directly underneath right on the underside of the warbird. It began to bring itself about to target but by then the faster runabout had flown from underneath and behind the rear, it couldn't turn its fore weapons to bear before the runabout was out of range. It followed in pursuit but the Rubicon began to break through the atmosphere, they wouldn't be firing here and when they got out the Rose could protect them. "C'Nell to Bridge, Warbird pursuing us; please respond" He wondered if they thought it odd a Science Officer at Tactical; but the situation wouldn't allow for explanation. (Reply Sanok, any on Bridge) (posted by Nathan) ----- (Runabout, Nolar, Day 2, 0544) Gan realized that Lieutenant Commander Jackson had been injured and did not seem in shape to command. But there was also so much to do about engineering. Gan could not be two places at the same time. "Lieutenant Crenshaw, our runabout are more maneuverable than their warbird. Try to loose them up. Reenter the planet atmosphere if need be, but we need to survive long enough for the USS Rosenante to get into position and rescue us. I'll try to give us some more power." Gan said before leaving for the engineer sections. There were several overload, he needed to reroute power to the remaining EPS conduits. Energy was low. Entering some command, he was able to seal some of the ruptured conduits and reroute power to the remaining conduits. But with the current power output, those conduits could not stand so much plasma flows. Yet, they needed even more power...the shields had failed, and they would not last very long. They were out of options. Gan was thinking about the warp nacelles, perhaps he could modify the warp coils to create a even bigger subspace distortion.....It would take too long. ~Damn it~ he thought. Gan increased the matter-antimatter flow into the reactor transferred everything to the shields. The whole EPS system would be overloading very shortly, but they were out of options. That done, Gan moved to the transporter room. Since they have left the planet orbit, he would need to boost transporters to be able to beam back on the surface. All he had to do now was to press a little button to beam the crew back on the surface, hoping the signal would be strong enough to get through the natural interference. Considering the likelyhood they would not rematerialize on the surface, that was a last resort plan. "Good shooting dear" he said to himself The warbird was firing on the Rose now, and C'Nell moved out of the way and began to request landing C'Nell began to phase in and out of conciousness. He needed Medical attention. (Reply any and none) (posted by Nathan) ----- (Runabout, Nolar, Day 2, 0552) Somehow, Gan had expected to see his own body shattered like a piece of glass following the explosion of the shuttle. But they were still alive and the shuttle had not shaken, indicating the ship had not been hit by the Warbird disruptors for the last two minutes. Gan decided to move away from the transporter console and go back to the pilot cabin. Moving to one of the console, he saw why the warbird stopped firing. The USS Rosenante had finally come to the rescue. However, Gan still wondered would have the better of it. A D'deridex-class warbird was one of the Romulan strongest ship. Even if the USS Rosenante was well equipped, the warbird had probably a slight advantage. With a new CO who have had little experience of command, the Romulan probably also had the experience advantage. "The USS Rosenante may not survive the fight. We need to prepare a plan in case it does not. We need to repair the EPS circuits if we want to have a chance to use warpdrives. Who here has taken at least three engineering classes at Starfleet Academy?" (Reply any) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Runabout, Andersen, Day 2, 0554) To say the mission was a failure... would be an severe understatement. Why oh why would it always have to be her, she though, why always the very wrong things that could happen - happen to her. Why of all the other people, she was tasked with so much knowing she will fail at every task given. Why was she instructed with something she could never uphold... why her, why now why here... And then, the colossal hull of the old D'Deridex class defiantly bristling it's many disruptor cannons right in their face, a remnant of the past, a ship from another, perhaps better, time... It was a beautiful sight, somehow in all this chaos, she could only feel a slight glimpse of hope, something long forgotten and lost... can be so beautiful and so deadly. There are times when you forget who you are, forget your place in the universe... forget what you wanted to be. Lost in the neverending stream of possibilities - and worries if you made the wrong decisions. She was hunting by these for bigger part of her life. Eventually, she came to the conclusion that... it all doesn't really matter. None of it does. The decisions... they all lead to the same end, some rather sooner, some later. The point of it all... was to live, and learn. Knowledge... was the key. That was the secret of the universe, nothing is forever, everything is everchanging, morphing... And despite it was changed... upgraded, despite the crew of this ship battled the test of time and proudly stood forward where not a lot of others would... the universe would have it's way. Nothing is forever... and soon, the beautiful ship was in flames, slowly and silently crying in space in pain, where no one could hear it. As it's lights, like a life, flickered away and back, the last breaths of this once powerful behemoth were done... and through it's last efforts to stay in one piece... it managed to remind Andersen what was that she wanted all along... Then, in the last fire of defiance, it went out in a proud blaze of flames, as it's hull twisted and exploded. She sighed, looking at the viewscreen... Matrix was down, and so was Jackson. C'Nell was patched up, no doubt resisting the pain thanks to his Vulcan side. She did not know how to fly a runabout... and was thankful... to the universe at least, that today wasn't the worse that could have happened. There was still someone capable of flying them back to the Rosenante. As they were flying towards the Rosenante, she was contacted from sickbay, they were ready for the injured. She wasn't sure if there's something even she could do for Matrix... and she didn't really know how extensive is Jackson's head trauma. Glimpsing the sides of the viewscreen to catch the silhuette of the dying ship, she wondered once again what was the point. Why them, why now, why here? Those were the questions she did not know the answers to. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (Rosenante Bridge, Signos, Day 2, 0557) The Rose had moved shielding the vastly smaller shuttle. But in doing so the Rose had made itself a target and npw suffered the wrath of the larger war ship. Explosions erupted from various consoles on the bridge as the Rose took another strike to the Rose's shields. "Shields down to seventy five percent." Jessica called over the chaos that filled the bridge. Jessica knew that even though the war bird was larger and more heavily armed, that the Rose could win. Has long she could fighting defensively. The Rose was smaller, more maneuverable and that other federation ships were en route to Yora lll meant she only had to by time. Jessica however wanted more ans she had a plan ot was risky but the pay off would be great. The two ships danced in space filling the area with brilliant beams of red and green. The battled for position to see which would gain the greater place for which to strike. Another blast from the war bird struck the Rose's shield like a hammer, has more explosions erupted. Sparks fell over Jessica but she refused to abandon the tactical station. Jessica punched in several commands into the console, alarms blared and flashed at her as she fed power into phaser array seven and eight. She watched has the weapon strength in those two arrays clime over 100%. ' 110, 115, 120% almost there.' She thought. Jessica hoped that if she hit the Romulan Warbird with an blast from an overcharged array that it overload the shields for a brief moment. But the manuver had it's risk the arrays could melt, or back feed into the Rose. The computer read 125% over load, she knew she could not push the system any further. She targeted the warbird and fired. Two beams seamed to scream though space. The warbird rotated on all axis in a vain attempt to avoid the stike. The blast struck home along one of the power relay nodes. The Romulan ships shields flashed in protest. 'A little longer,'Jessica thought. Then it happened the enemy shields faded. "Computer lock on to last target solution and fire full torpedo spread." Jessica commanded the computer. A second later space was filled with torpedoes from the Rose's weapon bays. The unexpected move made the warbird slow to react and two of the torpedoes found the hull of the ship before the shield were restored. Those that found there mark tore into the hull of the ship tearing holes into enemy ship. Nrpg(if anyone wants to add to the damahe the warbird sustained be m guest) The move was daring and she knew she would have to answer for the risk she took with the Rose. While the risk paid off, and the enemy ship now suffered. The Rose had suffered damage has well both array 7 and 8 were unresponsive and array 8 had fused with the surrounding hull and was no longer able to be used until it was replaced. (Reply any) (Posted by Matthew Locke) ----- (Rosenante Bridge, Sanok, Day 2, 0558) When the runabout cleared the atmosphere coming from Yora III, Ops reported its position. Right after, a Romulan D'deridex Warbird decloaked and began firing disruputors at it. The Rose was a few minutes away from being able to help, and Sanok could sense the tension on the bridge. It was obvious the warbird was hidden there for some time. The question was, why did it appear and attack the runabout? What was so important to the Romulans that they would risk a serious incident, or future repercussions with the Federation? Whatever that was, there was no time to sit and ponder it. Various stations shouted out reports, and Sanok issued orders. By the time the Rose was in firing range, it looked as though the runabout was in very bad condition. They tried talking with the crew, but the Romulans were jamming all comms. All that was left to do, was to fight. The warbird was much bigger, but it was an outdated design, though it surely had been upgraded. Still, the Rose was able to hold her own, and she was giving as good as she was getting. They had finally been able to shield the runabout from enemy fire, so it was now down to who would prevail in the slugfest. Sanok had come from a Sec/Tac background, so when he saw an unusual maneuver Signos was implementing, an alarm went off inside of him. He was about to issue an order countering it, but something within him told him to remain quiet. He had made Signos chief of tactical for a reason, so he chose to let this scene play out. Watching the forward view screen, as well as his own tactical readout console, Sanok saw Signos' plan succeed. "Damage report on the warbird," said Sanok. An ensign in the secondary security station answered. Shields were down. The torpedoes had caused two hull breaches. There were several fires. Heavy casualties. The warbird began to flicker and fade, but it soon reappeared. They were trying to cloak, but the attempt was unsuccessful. "Sanok to runabout Rubicon." Someone replied, but there was still some sort of interference, so Sanok didn't recognize the voice. "You are clear to board." The person acknowledged. "Sanok to sickbay, send a trauma team to shuttle bay 1." As a medical person responded, there was a bright flash on the view screen. An explosion on the warbird blew off parts of the hull. "Helm, as soon as the Rubicon is in the bay, move us away from the warbird." "Aye, sir." Sanok sighed. This was supposed to be a relief and rescue mission, but it had turned deadly. There was now another mystery to solve. (reply any and all) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Runabout, Tesha, Day 2, 0559) While the runabout and the Rose were engaged in battle with a Romulan ship, Tesha forced herself to concentrate on helping tend to the injured Matrix. Fear was welling up inside her, but through the discipline of her training, she was able to overcome it. The instinct to live, to run away somewhere and hide, roared through her. This was impossible, being inside a small ship in space, so it aided her in maintaining herself. This entire mission, both trips to the planet, had gone wrong every way possible. She had followed orders and done her duty, but within herself, she had questioned so much of what the officers had done. Too many mistakes were made, and her dislike for officers increased. Her family had always told her she should have served in the Andorian Imperial Guard. Better to trust her safety and her life to her own kind. Tesha knew a choice like that would have been a good one, but in Starfleet, there was so much more to see, do, and learn, and so many new people to meet. She did often miss her home, but she also knew she had made the right choice. Now, if only the officers running this show could do something right and get them safely back on board the Rose. =^=Sanok to runabout Rubicon.=^= At the sound of the captain's voice, Tesha wanted to shout in jubilation. It had to mean they were going to be all right, as all comms had been jammed by the warbird attacking them. She was so relieved, she didn't hear who replied or what was said. Her antennae were bouncing. =^=You are clear to board.=^= Tesha's blue lips burst into a huge smile, and she let out a huge sigh. Yes, they were going to make it. Her mom had told her once years ago she and the women in her family, once bonded with their life mate, could sense what happened to them. Until she and Tom married, she hadn't experienced thus phenomenon. Dahlia wondered if Tom had been injured. Tom Jackson was a man who led from the front and was a risk taker. She always worried about her mate. Dahlia also knew Tom would never change that. The twins were stirring and she went into see her children. Jacob was so like her - quiet and sensitive.
